Bharat Mandir in Rishikesh



Bharat Mandir is an ancient temple founded by Adiguru Shankaracharya in the 12th century. It is said to be the oldest temple in Rishikesh devoted to Lord Vishnu and located just near to Triveni Ghat in the heart of the old town Rishikesh. It is said about temple that Sage Raibhya practised penance at this spot. The Inner sanctum of the temple has the idol of Lord Vishnu, carved out of a single Saligram. In the inner canopy above the idol is Shree Yantra installed by Adi Sankraya Charya. In the premises, there is very old tree lookes like a single tree but there are three tree like Banyan, Bel, Pipple Trees these trees are intermingled in such a way that it is impossible to find next as a separate entity.ishikesh is a city in India northern state of Uttarakhand, in the Himalayan foothills beside the Ganges River. Rishikesh is known as The Gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas. Rishikesh has been a part of the legendary Kedarkhand. Legends state that Lord Rama with his younger brother did penance here and crossed the river Ganges after killing Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Rishikesh is not its actual name, the actual name of Rishikesh is Hrishikesh, it is a Sanskrit word and combination of two Sanskrit words Hrishika and Isha, Hrishika means Senses and Isha means Master or Lord.
