Badrinath Temple will open on 06 May 2017

Badrinath temple also has historical significance because the temple here was installed by Adi Shankara. Adi Shankara was born in a place called Kaladi in Kerala over a thousand years ago. He was a prodigal child and an extraordinary scholar with almost super-human capabilities. At the age of two, he could fluently speak and write Sanskrit. At the age of four, he could recite all the Vedas, and at the age of twelve, he took sanyas and left his home. Even at such a young age, he gathered disciples and started walking throughout the country to re-establish the spiritual sciences.

Triveni Ghat: Famous for the Ganga Aarti

The  Ganga aarti is a pleasant ritual of worshipping the Ganga. Around 50-100 people visit the aarti on any day.  The Aarti at Rishikesh is a contrast to it, held in a small place with a few people and is a relatively quite affair. You can sit quietly in a corner and witness the ritual or join the crowds singing Bhajans with them. The aarti happens at a very picturesque place on the banks of Ganga. You see some activity beginning at the riverbank around 5pm. People start cleaning up the area, lay carpets in preparation for the aarati. A few people are seen selling deep or diya – a flower bowl with a wick lamp to be floated down the river during the Aarti after prayers. It starts at 6.30pm, with children studying Veda, the Bhajan singers and the performers walking into the ghat. It begins with Bhajans and prayers for ‘Gangaji’ and Shiva.
