Lakshman Jhula: A hanging bridge in Rishikesh.

The popular hanging bridge across the holy river Ganga, Lakshman Jhula is a known landmark in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. This 450 ft long Jhula is built at a height of 70 ft from the river and is about 3 kms away from the main town of Rishikesh. Interestingly this bridge has a history attached to it. As per the Hindu mythology, Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Sri Rama, crossed the holy river Ganga at the same site where the bridge stands today. At that time this bridge was made up of jute. The bridge came to be known as the Lakshman Jhula after this incident. In 1939 the jute bridge was replaced with a new iron bridge that was built along the same path.

Flying Fox Adventure in Rishikesh / By Krishna Holidays

We have fixed a hard wire from one end of the valley to the other. This wire is more than a kilometre long and there is a large apparatus attached to it. You are harnessed to this apparatus which is released to gravity running on the wire from the height of 120 mtrs to achieve the speed of 160 kmph.
Imagine yourself piercing through the air at such high speed. This is undoubtedly one of the most exciting activities offered by us. The apparatus you are harnessed to is then slowly brought back to the starting point. Flying Fox in Rishikesh is usually done by three persons at a time. However, if you desire you can pay extra to do it alone. Successful participants are honoured with "Dare to Jump Certificates".

Stunning view of the Ram Jhula in Rishikesh.

Ram Jhula is located near Muni Ki Reti, approximately 4 miles (6 kilometers) north of Rishikesh. The bridge is mainly used by pedestrians; however, it is also open to motorbikes and is popular with the local monkeys. There are some of the Hindu ashrams and religious centers like "Gita Bhawan", and "Swargashram" located here.It is also a connecting bridge between Swargashram, Gita Bhawan and other temples with Sivananda Ashram. When you walk on them, you can feel every footstep of yours making vibrations on the ground beneath. But the strangest part was to see the vehicles moving along with pedestrians in such a narrow area.
