Lord Shiva Statue at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh.

Triveni ghat is the confluence of three holy rivers- Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. However, the ghat lies by river Ganges. Lying by the holy Ganga River, Triveni Ghat is a sacred ghat that is used mainly for bathing by the pilgrims. The most popular attraction of this ghat is the everyday event of Ganga Aarti where River Goddess Ganga is worshipped on a daily basis. This event is also termed as Maha Aarti. A huge, amazing and memorable affair, this prayer ceremony is attended by a huge number of devotees as well as visitors. During the aarti, the priests hold a huge lamp containing several oil-lit diyas and rotate their hands in circular motion, worshipping the River. This action is accompanied by bells, beating drums, and chanting of bhajans. In the end, diyas (earthen lamps) are kept on flower-filled leaf boats and are released into the holy waters.
