Holy Bells at Tungnath Temple, Uttarakhand


It is best to start early in the morning from Chopta to Tungnath, which is the highest Shiva Temple in the world, located at a height of 3,680 meters. The temple is one of the Panch Kedars and is tucked in the lap of the Chandrashila peak. It is believed that Tungnath is more than 1000 years old and holds a legend that corroborates some of the incidents depicted in the Mahabharata epic. From Tungnath temple, a further ascent of an hour terminates atop the Chandrashila summit where from one can capture the silvery sheen of the Himalayan range dotted with several peaks and also of all the green valleys and deep gorges.

Trayambakeshwar Temple in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand


Trayambakeshwar Temple  is situated near the famous Lakshman Jhula and is an important holy shrine in Rishikesh. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be one among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Trayambakeshwar actually means "Abode of three- eyed". It has many idols as well as chambers, which houses religious and vedic texts. The temple is a 13 storey high building and is a place of worship of many deities.  In proximity to it, there is a Swarg Niwas Mandir, another 12- storey temple with various idols of Hindu gods and goddesses on its many floors. Morning View of Lakshman Jhula, Rishikesh


Lakshman Jhula is approximately 5 miles (8 kilometers) north of Rishikesh. The bridge is now used by small motorized vehicles as well as by visitors on foot. It is always open and there is no fee to cross. Many will then make their way to the 13-storey Tera Manzil temple at the far end of the bridge. Climb to the top floor to enjoy spectacular views of the river as it cuts a path through the rugged green mountains.The bridge connects the Tehri and Pauri districts and both of these have extensive markets nearby. Walk to either end and you will find a vast selection of stalls where local artisans sell handcrafted goods.
